I’m Gunny “B”, a retired Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant with 21 years of active duty service spent defending our great nation. I’m a certified Texas LTC Instructor and NRA Pistol Instructor with over 35 years of firearms experience. Most classes are held in the Mansfield/Arlington/Grand Prairie/Fort Worth/Dallas, Cedar Hill, and surrounding areas. I specialize in small classes – typically 6 or less students; ladies only; and one on one personal training. I’m very flexible with schedules…Weekdays & Sundays no problem and if need be, I can come to you. I intentionally like to keep my class size small in order to give you better training and more personal service.  I know offer at Texas Constitutional Carry Class that will provide you the knowledge you need to stay on the right side of the law.  The LTC class covers the key topics of firearm safety, open carry holsters, firearm storage, situational awareness, the laws surrounding the use of force/deadly force, and the application process.  I also offer a Basics 101 Shooting class for beginners and for those who simply want to refresh their knowledge about firearm safety and the basic principles of shooting.   I will supply your target. You will need to supply your handgun and a minimum of 50 rounds for the qualification course. If you don’t own a firearm, I do offer rentals. Ammo is included with all rentals. Cost is $50.00.

Class Fees:

  • $200 – Introductions to Handguns 101 and LTC Combo Class (This can also be done in  Private 1/1 Training sessions) or $250 if I supply firearms and ammo ($25 charge if you wish to try additional firearms/ammo)
  • $180 – Introductions to Handguns 101 and Texas Constitutional Carry Combo Class (This can also be done in  Private 1/1 Training sessions) or $230 if I supply firearms and ammo ($25 charge if you wish to try additional firearms/ammo)
  • $70 The NEW Texas Constitutional Carry Class (Everything you need to know about Texas Constitutional Carry to keep you on the right side of the law) – No firearm is required for this class but if you have not fired a handgun before please consider the combo class or taking my 101 Basics Class.
  • $50 Firearm Rentals Available (includes 50 rounds of ammo) for those who may require them) – $25 extra to try other firearms.
  • $80 – Texas Concealed Handgun Licensing Class or $130 if I supply firearms and ammo
  • $140 – Texas Concealed Handgun Licensing Class (Private 1/1 Training only) or $190 if I supply firearms and ammo
  • $140 – 101 Basic Introduction to Handguns/Safety and Shooting Fundamentals or $190 if I supply firearms and ammo

This is the class for you!

I’m happy to offer a 1 on 1 combination class specifically designed for the beginner shooter, novice shooter, or anyone who desires a refresher course on shooting handguns (semi autos/revolvers). I’ve combined my Basic Pistol Shooting Course and the Texas License to Carry Course then coupled it with my 38 years of firearms experience gained in the Marine Corps and as a Firearms Instructor. The result is a 8 hour pistol instruction course that will leave you confident in your abilities to safely handle and shoot your handgun and qualify for your LTC. At the end of the course you will be able to complete your application for your LTC which allows you to open carry or conceal carry while feeling confident in your ability to defend yourself. The course has 3 parts:

Part-1: Classroom (Fundamentals of Shooting)

This will consist of Classroom Instruction and Hands-on participation by the student in:

• Pistol Safety, its Parts, and Operation (Revolvers as needed)
• Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting: Dominant Eye/Stance/Grip/Sight Alignment/Finger placement-Trigger Control/Breathing/Trigger follow-through
• Pistol Shooting Positions: Isosceles Stance & Weaver Stance, modified versions of both
• Pistol Cleaning, Storage, and Training, (Disassembly/Reassembly of firearm if time permits)

Part-2: Practical Application/Hands-on Shooting

This is the Practical Application of the Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting and Hands-on shooting segment where you learn and demonstrate:

• Knowledge of Range rules/procedures/safety
• Practice the Practical Application of the Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting in a classroom setting and demonstrate a safe and positive attitude at all times with regards to handling and shooting firearms.
• Student(s) will be completely comfortable handling/shooting a firearm PRIOR to the live fire exercise.
• We will transition to the indoor shooting range where you will get a chance to demonstrate what you have learned. Student(s) will receive direct feedback/instruction as needed before moving on to the LTC qualification!
• Student(s) will then shoot the live fire portion of the LTC qualification

Part-3: Classroom (License to Carry)

We will then come back to the classroom and finish up with Part 3, the Classroom LTC segment. Here we will discuss:
• Firearm use and safety, including use of restraint holsters and methods to ensure the secure carrying of openly carried handguns.
• Safe Storage of Firearms with particular emphasis on storage practices that eliminate the possibility of accidental injury to a child
• Situation Awareness Non-Violent Dispute Resolution (Effective Communication Skills)
• Laws the relate to weapons and the use of Force/Deadly Force
• Go Over Application Process
• Take a 25 question T/F or multiple choice test

Students Need to Bring:
• Handgun – semi auto/revolver (.22 Cal or better and NO lasers) and at least 50 rounds of ammunition
• TX Driver’s License or Texas ID card
• Hearing Protection (range will have some if you need to borrow)
• Eye Protection (range will have some if you need to borrow)
• You are welcome to bring something to eat/drink during class.
• The LTC qualification will take place in the morning after the safety portion of the class if given. The range fee (usually $11-$16) is charged by the range and paid directly to them when you qualify.
• Most classes are held in the Mansfield area, but I am flexible and can travel to you. Class location will be individually scheduled with each class.

The NEW Texas Constitutional Carry Class will provide everything you need to know about Texas Constitutional Carry to keep you on the right side of the law and out of jail – No firearm is required for this class but if you have not fired a handgun before please consider the combo class or taking my 101 Basics Class.

Texas License to Carry Class Only

Course Fee is $80 OR $140 for Private One on One training.

The Texas License to Carry (LTC) Course was designed by the Texas Department of Public Safety for moderately experienced shooters. This course IS NOT recommended for beginners. The LTC course takes between 5-6 hours of instruction and includes a 50 round live fire qualification at the shooting range. The shooting portion of this class is the Shooting Proficiency test and not Basic Firearms training. Below is what you can expect:

Classroom/Shooting

Gunny “B”s 101 Basic Firearms Training Class – Course fee is $140.00 (Private One on One only)

Fee is $190 if I Supply Firearm/Ammo ($25 additional if you wish to try other firearms and ammo)

This class is specifically designed for the beginner shooter, novice shooter, or anyone who desires a refresher courses on shooting handguns (semi autos/revolvers). I’ve coupled my Basic Pistol Shooting Course with my 35 years of firearms experience gained in the Marine Corps and as a Firearms Instructor. The result is a 4-5 hour pistol instruction course that will leave you confident in your abilities to safely handle and shoot your handgun when you leave the range.   I can do this in a 1 on 1 setting too.  The course has 2 parts:

Part-1: Classroom (Fundamentals of Shooting)

This first part consist of Classroom Instruction and Hands-on participation by the student in:

• Pistol Safety, its Parts, and Operation (Revolvers as needed)
• Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting: Dominant Eye/Stance/Grip/Sight Alignment/Finger placement-Trigger Control/Breathing/Trigger follow-through
• Pistol Shooting Positions: Isosceles Stance & Weaver Stance, modified versions of both

Online LTC Students ONLY

Course fee is $50.00 or $100 if I supply Gun and Ammo.

The state requires that a resident LTC instructor qualify you at the shooting range.

There is a required 1-2 hour gun safety class prior to live fire qualification.

 

How to apply online to complete the Texas DPS LTC Online Application

Texas DPS Cost:
You can register with Texas DPS before or after you take the class.
• $40 – New License (4 years)
• $25 – Honorably discharged military
• Free – Active Military
• Retired and Active Peace Officers and some members of the judiciary have reduced fees.

Your will need the following information available:
• Valid driver license or identification card.
• Current demographic, address, contact, and employment information.
• Residential and employment information for the last five years (new users only).
• Information regarding any psychiatric, drug, alcohol, or criminal history (new users only).
• Note: When listing criminal activity open disclosure is very important…when in doubt- list it.
• Valid email address.
• Valid credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express)

2. Get Your Electronic Fingerprints

MorphoTrust USA has multiple locations around the Metroplex. You will be prompted to schedule your fingerprints after the application is complete. There is a fee charged for fingerprint services.

To schedule an appointment at a time and location convenient to you, please use one of the following methods:

3. Upload Your Class Completion Certificate via the DPS website.

At the end of the class, you will receive your LTC-100 Certificate of Proficiency
Once you’ve completed your online application and electronic fingerprints, you can upload all required documentation at:

Once received, the State of Texas will start your background check. If additional information is needed, the state will contact you by mail.

Class Refund Policy

Private Class refunds are fully refunded if more than one week (7 calendar days) cancellation notice is given. If less than one week’s notice is given then 1/2 of paid course fee is refunded back to the student.
All student cancellations within 72 hours of class date will forfeit class fee but you will have 30 days to reschedule your class.
Classes are subject to cancellation and rescheduling by me as needed.
